UK SCAM?

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

I just received a reply email yesterday regarding UK hiring nurses. I think I have submitted my resume through Jobsdb or Jobstreet. I was so excited because of the offers mentioned (who wouldn't?). So, I started to google search and was really amazed what I have found. I realized this is a scam and has been victimizing nurses since last month (October). I even called the number mentioned in the message and doubted already because of the way the representative answered to my queries. He said I couldn't visit their office unless I have paid their training fee. No doubt, this is a SCAM! I'm just thankful I have searched first before saying goodbye to my P3,000. I almost fall for this!

So, to all my fellow nurses, BEWARE of anyone who will send you great job offers. Better think twice and try to research beforehand the credibility of a certain company/employer. Go to POEA/SEC as much as possible. I know there are so many of us who are looking for a brighter future but just don't rush into things. It will come in God's time...

Anyway, this is the exact email I received:

Nostalgia

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Since I became a fan of Old Philippines and Karaang Sugbo in Facebook, I have always wanted to write an article about the Philippines in yesteryears...

I'm really fond of reading these kind of articles. I like to reminisce the past especially my younger years. And it seems I was already born at the same time with our grannies...Here are some of the pictures I grabbed from these pages.

Oh...the picturesque view of the Cebu Capitol Bldg! What a nice view! The street was so wide then and still no traffic. Cebu Doctors' University Hospital was not yet existent so I guess, this was way before the 70's.

My all-time favorite beverage, Coke... I could still remember these old bottles. I think there are still few of these bottles circulating now in our local stores. Additionally, the model is one of the greatest actresses in Philippine history --Gloria Romero. Her beauty is so immortal!

We used to have this kind of computer way back in 80's - 90's. And favorite was the Super Mario Bros.! *lol* My childhood revolved in this computer gadget and made those years one of the happiest moments of my life.

Fallin' For You - Colbie Caillat

I love this new song from Colbie so much! Want as well post the video and lyrics here...

LYRICS:

I don’t know but
I think I maybe
Fallin’ for you
Dropping so quickly
Maybe I should
Keep this to myself
Waiting ’til I
Know you better

I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

As I’m standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around us
I see nobody
Here in silence
It’s just you and me

I’m trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

Oh I just can’t take it
My heart is racing
The emotions keep spinning out

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

I can’t stop thinking about it
I want you all around me
And now I just can’t hide it
I think I’m fallin’ for you (x2)

I’m fallin’ for you

Ooohhh
Oh no no
Oooooohhh
Oh I’m fallin’ for you

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

It took me several months to post again here. I have been very busy with my review lately. There were so many things happened in my life last year (2008). Firstly, I resigned from my work as a staff nurse last July. Secondly, I've got a cute niece. My sister-in-law gave birth via c-section last August. She is really an angel! Oh God, I missed my niece so much. Lastly, I have passed an examination. I owed it to our God Almighty!

argao

Last June of this year, me and my friends went to Argao town to attend our friend's wedding. I was very excited though a little exhausted because I came from a night shift duty. After work, I immediately went home just to freshen up, then headed to the bus terminal. That day I planned to sleep on the bus but I couldn't because I enjoyed the sceneries. Additionally, I was also afraid to sleep because I didn't trust my seatmate. You know what I mean -- only in the Philippines! Anyway, this was my first time to visit this place because whenever we would go south we'd just passed through this town. I really did not get a chance to have a better view of how Argao looked like. So, last month, I did!

Argao is just a small town found somewhere south of the Cebu province and surrounded by neighboring towns of Sibonga, Dalaguete and Dumanjug.

Well, my friends and I went straight to the plaza where the municipal hall is situated (since the wedding was officiated by the Mayor!) While waiting for my friend's (the bride) turn, my other friends and I roamed around the plaza and took some pictures as a sort of remembrance.

What I really struck at was their centuries-old church, St. Michael.

I'll post some pictures soon.

July 16, 2008 --- I just couldn't forget this date. How could I? This is the first day of being unemployed. It's so pathetic! I hate the fact that I am not earning and yet, asking again allowance from my parents. It seemed I'm turning back the time - when I was still a student. Anyway, I do have several reasons why I gave up my job but I'll just keep that to myself.

Right now, I keep myself busy by learning things around this so-called, blogosphere! I enjoyed reading from other persons' blogs hoping to find interesting ideas.

Well...this will be for now! Till next time...

a weight loss study

Low Carb And Mediterranean May Be Effective Alternatives To Low Fat Diets, Study

A new large scale 2 year study by an international team of scientists concluded that Mediterranean and low carbohydrate diets may be just as safe and effective as standard medically prescribed low fat diets for losing weight and if continued beyond the weight loss target, may confer long term health benefits. A particularly noteworthy feature of the study is the high proportion of participants who stuck to the diets for the whole 2 years: 85 per cent.

The study was led by researchers from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Israel and is published in the 17th July issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, NEJM. Other members of the study team came from Nuclear Research Center in Dimona, Israel, Harvard University, Boston, US, The University of Leipzig, Germany and the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

The authors wrote that one of the main difficulties of assessing the safety and effectiveness of weight loss diets is that trials usually have a high drop out rate and don't last long enough.

For this 2 year trial, they intensively monitored 322 moderately obese adults of mean age 52 years, and mean BMI (body mass index) of 31 that had been randomly assigned to one of three diets: low-fat, restricted-calorie; Mediterranean, restricted-calorie; or low-carbohydrate, non-restricted-calorie. 86 per cent of the participants were men.

The trial was conducted at the Nuclear Research Center in Israel and "involved unparalleled and significant cooperation between staff, participants and their spouses", said the authors in a press statement.

The workplace cafeterias underwent a sort of "health revolution" to provide the right foods for each of the three diets and to integrate easily with clinical requirements. For example, dishes were clearly labelled using different colours for each diet, and participants and their spouses had nutritional counselling and education on how to stick to the diets not only at work but also at home.

The participants also filled in electronic questionnaires developed specifically for the study.

The results showed that:

* 95.4 per cent of the participants stuck to their diets for at least 1 year and 84.6 per cent for the whole 2 years.

* The group on the Mediterranean diet consumed the most dietary fiber and had the highest ratio of monounsaturated to saturated fat intake.

* The low carbohydrate group ate the least carbohydrates and the most fat, protein and cholesterol and had the highest proportion of members with ketones in their urine.

* The average weight loss was: 2.9 kg (6.4 lbs) in the low fat diet group; 4.4 kg (9.7 lbs) in the Mediterranean diet group; and 4.7 kg (10.4 lbs) in the low carbohydrate group.

* The average weight loss was greater among the 272 participants who kept to the diets for the whole 2 years: 3.3 kg (7.3 lbs) in the low fat, 4.6 kg (10.1 lbs) in the Mediterranean, and 5.5 kg (12.1 lbs) in the low carbohydrate groups.

* The relative reduction in total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (the so called "good" cholesterol) ratio was 20 per cent in the low carbohydrate group and 12 per cent in the low fat group.

* Among the 36 participants with diabetes, more favourable levels in fasting plasma glucose and insulin were reached by those on the Mediterranean diet than those on the low fat diet.

* Liver function and inflammatory biomarkers improved in all three diets.

The authors concluded that:

"Mediterranean and low-carbohydrate diets may be effective alternatives to low-fat diets. The more favorable effects on lipids (with the low-carbohydrate diet) and on glycemic control (with the Mediterranean diet) suggest that personal preferences and metabolic considerations might inform individualized tailoring of dietary interventions."

Lead author Dr Iris Shai, a researcher at the S. Daniel Abraham International Center for Health and Nutrition in the Department of Epidemiology at BGU, said that the weight loss achieved by all the diets were "comparable to results from physician-prescribed weight loss medications".

Shai said that "clearly, there is not one diet that is ideal for everyone".

"We believe that this study will open clinical medicine to considering low-carb and Mediterranean diets as safe effective alternatives for patients, based on personal preference and the medical goals set for such intervention."

"Furthermore, the improvement in levels of some biomarkers continued until the 24-month point, although maximum weight loss was achieved by 6 months. This suggests that healthy diet has beneficial effects beyond weight loss," she added.

The authors acknowledged that one limitation of the study was the low percentage of women (14 per cent).

"Weight Loss with a Low-Carbohydrate, Mediterranean, or Low-Fat Diet."

starting over again

by: Natalie Cole

And, when I hold you in my arms I promise you
You're gonna feel a love that's beautiful and new
This time I'll love you even better
Than I ever did before
And you'll be in my heart forever more

We, we're just too young to know
We fell in love and let it go
So easy to say the words goodbye
So hard to let the feeling die

I know how much I need you now
The time is turning back somehow
As soon as our hearts and souls unite
I know for sure we'll get the feeling right

CHORUS
And now we're starting over again
It's not the easiest thing to do
I'm feeling inside again
"Cause everytime I look at you
I know we're starting over again
This time we'll love all the pain away
Welcome home my lover and friend
We are starting over, over again

If we niver lived alone
Then we might have never known
All of the time we spent apart
All we did was break each other's hearts

MUSIC TURNAROUND

And when I hold you in my arms I promise you
You're gonna feel a love that's beautiful and new
This time I'll love you even better
Than I ever did before
And you'll be in my heart forevermore

REPEAT CHORUS

And now we're starting over again
This time we'll chase all the rain away
Welcome home my lover and friend
We are starting over, over again
We are starting over, over again

you know you love me...xoxo...gossip girl

mysterious deaths in the icu???

Saturday, May 31, 2008

here's another one to repost!

there was this case in the intensive
care unit were patients always died in
the same bed...

sunday mornings @ 11am, regardless of
their medical condition...

this puzzled doctors...

no one could solve the mystery " why
deaths happen on sundays @ 11am?"

mr. licauco & the ateneo paranormal
folks were called...

they arrived armed with special
photogenic equipments, infrared devices
& motion sensitive radar to detect any
presence...

so the next sunday morning, few minutes
before 11am, doctors & nurses nervously
waited outside the ward to see what the
mystery was all about...

some were holding wooden crosses &
prayer books to ward off evil
spirits...

when the clock struck 11am...

mang jose, a part time sunday janitor,
entered the room, unplugged the life
support system & plugged in the vacuum
cleaner...

the so-called PRIDE!!

Thursday, May 29, 2008

saw this post in my frienster's bulletin. just want to share this one here in my blog.

PRIDE
when you have it...
you always don't want to be the first to do the step to be with someone...
you always try to hide your feelings...
you don't want others to know that you're hurt...
you're afraid of letting someone know he's/she's special...
you're afraid of losing someone but also afraid to show it...
you're afraid to love someone whom you think can't love you back...
you're so aware of what others think that you can't do what you want...
you're not happy...
and in the end, you lose everything without even trying to have it...
AGREE?!

my nursing history...

Monday, May 26, 2008

before 2002

Being a nurse is quite tiring but much more fulfilling. Honestly, I did not see myself being a nurse at first. This was not my dream anyway! When I was still a kiddo, I really pictured myself as a doctor (at least, nursing is still related to medicine!) or an accountant. That was why, i took up first, medical technology course. However, I realized my first course was not for me and nursing is making a boom at that time! Almost everyone have said that I shifted course because I failed my first one. In my defense, I did not honestly. In fact, my grades were fair enough! However, I could not blame them.

after 2002

Eventually, I transferred another school. Slowly did I notice that I have finished my nursing course and realized that nursing is the only course that I can reach my American dream. Right after I passed the board exam, another dilemma came up which was appalling. I was torn between finding a local job and taking foreign exams. I envied my classmates and friends who were already employed and earning their own money, so I decided to look for an employer locally instead. Apparently not until I realized that my classmates were slowly quitting their jobs to take their exams and there were some who went abroad already, it was too late for me because i could not give up my job. I found it useless if I quit after a year working because I would not be able to get an employment certificate. So, I decided to finish my commitment here where I worked in before i will take different exams. I can not risk the money that will be spent for the exams while still working. I can not guarantee to my parents that I will pass the exams.

2008

After waiting another year, it's time for me to move on. Right now, I have already tendered my resignation to the office but this makes me so sad. I'm gonna leaving my workmates and will surely miss them!
